For Loyd Goatcher, the journey began with a single vacation to New Mexico and the will to manage his own business, shaped by experiences that would later define not only a career, but a commitment to doing things differently. Inspired by the experience in managing a Samon’s store in the state of Utah, Loyd set out to build something rooted in more than just products or services—something grounded in purpose.

“I truly believe customer service can improve the lives of the everyday person,” Goatcher explains, a principle that continues to guide every decision made today.

At its heart, Samon’s Electric & Plumbing Supply provides a huge array of electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling supplies, serving New Mexico with a focus on quality, reliability, and trust. But the story goes deeper than what’s offered—it’s about how it all came to be. From its early beginnings in March of 1971, the company has grown through perseverance, adaptability, and a clear understanding of what customers truly need.

What sets Samon’s apart is simple: personable customer service from the moment a customer walks into the store, they are greeted by knowledgeable employees. It’s a philosophy that prioritizes people over transactions, ensuring that every customer interaction feels personal and meaningful.

Like any journey, the road hasn’t been without its challenges. Big box retailers bring constant competition and test the business in meaningful ways. But through the simple fact that many New Mexicans have appliances that require parts larger stores don’t carry, Samon’s emerges stronger.

Samon’s has evolved from a single store in Albuquerque established in 1971 into 12 store locations including a distribution center and corporate office. Looking forward, the company aims to continue to be the place where people go to find the right part at the right prices.
